2019, recorded a quantum of smartphone cameras. The year started with 48-megapixel cameras, then it jumped to 64-megapixel, and then ended the year at 108-megapixel sensors, all on commercially available smartphones. Multi-camera setups became a norm, and even phones that cost around N50,000 started packing four rear cameras that click social media-ready photos. Night mode became the talk of the town, and although the difference in its implementation varied significantly between the top-tier phones and low-end segment, its widespread availability was definitely a plus. Computational photography came to the forefront, and Google Camera mods became all the rage for users who didn't like the stock camera app on their phones.
Contrarily, video quality hasn’t been given the same amount of attention, Android phones can't record video files that are larger than 4GB in size. That could probably change in the year 2020 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865’s improved ISP.
Even as Android smartphones are shipping with larger internal storage capacities, have faster modems, and are now supporting 5G networks, an old limitation prevents most of these phones from saving video files that are larger than 4GB in size. However, that could change in Android 11, the next major version of Android that’s set to release in 2020.
The limitation is getting more and more annoying as time goes by, because right now handsets capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps are basically everywhere, and that means big file sizes. 4K60 takes up even more space, and don't be surprised if the first devices with 8K recording capabilities show up on the market in the very near future.
In light of that, the size per minute of video captured will only go up, which means that you'll fit less and less time into that 4GB. As it is right now, video recording won't stop after the current file that's being created has reached 4GB, the camera app will keep recording subsequent files. So if you keep going, even at 4K30, you may find that your Gallery has a bunch of different files stored for what you thought was one continuous recording. Not perfect, without a doubt.
The 4GB maximum file size limit for video recordings has been in place since 2014 when the mobile world was much different in terms of hardware capabilities, and while it may have made some sense then, it definitely is just a step back in user experience right now. Google appears to have understood this.
The description of a new commit in the Android Open Source Project Gerrit says Google will allow Android to "compose/mux files more than 4GB in size" in the next major version of the OS. That could be Android 11, and if the company keeps to its previous time frames, the first beta should be out sometime in March.

WhatsApp Is Currently Getting The Dark Mode Ready On Its App.
In a bid to customize the App and make it look more attractive, thereby reducing the light Ray's on the eyes especially at night, WhatsApp is finally getting the dark mode and we are ready for it. As rumors go, some WhatsApp users have already tested it and the feature is going to be rolled out generally very soon. The Facebook-owned messaging app has been teasing the dark mode for months, though it’s yet to announce a release date or even officially comment on it.
According to WaBetaInfo, a website that tracks all of WhatsApp developments through the beta version of the app reported that the new dark theme is ready for both the Android version of WhatsApp and the iOS version as well.
The update is designed to reduce screen glare by replacing the light-colored background and message bubbles with darker colors.
Dark mode makes it easier to few messages in low light conditions, while also preventing the app from draining as much battery.
Given how much time we do end up spending staring at our phones, a feature like this goes a long way in helping us take care of daily habits.
Moreover, WhatsApp is testing a new beta update for iOS users which would bring new features like hide muted status update, splash screen, and app badge improvements, etc. The new splash screen will essentially let users see the WhatsApp logo whenever they open the app on their iPhones. This is also available on the Android beta app as well and has already started popping up for many users.

Good News, CBN Has Reduced Online Inter-Bank Transfer, ATM Withdrawal And ATM Card Maintenance Charges.
Nigerians, who have always lamented about the unusual charges that come with making transfers to other banks and having to pay a constant fee every time, even for smaller transaction volumes.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reviewed its charges placed on the Nigerians for the popular maintenance charges of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) cards and the fees for electronic financial transactions.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reviewed its charges placed on the Nigerians for the popular maintenance charges of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) cards and the fees for electronic financial transactions.
According to a recent report made by the country’s Apex Bank, bank customers will from now on pay N10 for each electronic transfer below N5,000, and N25 for electronic transfer between N5,000 and N50,000. Only electronic transfers from above N50,000 will cost N50, according to the new policy.
It did not end with bank transfer charges as we have even more good news. There’s also a downward review of the fee attached to withdrawals through other bank’s ATMs after the third time, within the same month. The charges have been slashed from N65 to a maximum of N35. Great! isn’t it?
This would ease the burden of having to count how many withdrawal transactions that have been made on other bank's ATMs. Clearly, N35 seems more reasonable than the previous N65 that was charged.
Card Maintenance Fee (CAMF) Also Treated
Current Account holders are not left out, as the CBN has removed the Card Maintenance Fee (CAMF) on all cards linked to current accounts, with a maximum of N1 per mille for customer induced debit transactions to third parties and transfers to the customers’ account in another bank on current accounts.
The downward review by the CBN is thoughtful and also a relief for Nigerians who have complained over and again about how the bank milks them for day to day transactions.
Summary Of The Freshest Charges By CBN
A. Electronic transfers:
N10 for interbank transaction less than N5000
N25 for interbank transaction between N5,001 – 50,000
N50 for interbank transaction above N50,000
B. ATM Withdrawal
N35 (previously 65) after 3rd withdrawal in a month, on another bank’s ATM.
C. Card Maintenance Charge
N50 every 3 months for Savings (Now quarterly as against the current monthly charge)
Zero fee for Current account.
D. Account Maintenance Charge
Zero for Current
Applicable to current accounts only on customer induced transactions
It is also a testament to the positive and competitive effects of modern organizations like OPay and others who have already given customers a taste of what it is like to transfer to other banks at a very low cost.

Warning! A Fake Windows 10 Update Has A Ransomeware Hidden In It
It is worth mentioning that as Microsoft has just released its newest update of Windows 10, a new phishing campaign is taking the advantage to spread in the form of an email, prompting users of Windows 10 to install a critical update.
Researchers at Trustwave have released details of this new threat. It attempts to trick users into hijacking their PCs and demanding a ransom.
The e-mail , which is currently in English and seems to come from Microsoft, has the subject ” Install Latest Microsoft Windows Update now!” or “Critical Microsoft Windows Update!” And prompt the reader to install the included update as an attachment. In reality, it is a program that downloads ransomware called Cyborg.
